Mon, Aug 19: Drove back up coast

Drove back toward Kenai town, in hopes of better weather, but no such luck.

We visited the Norman Lowell art gallery just south of Anchor Point.  We had been told it was a must see by the innkeeper in Cooper's Landing.  We missed it on the way to Homer (the sign for the turnoff is not very large).  Very interesting, large gallery.  Very well presented.  Started with small rooms with small paintings, and as you walked thru, the rooms got larger, as did the paintings.  Ending with a spectacular 14 foot wide by 7 foot high Northern Lights painting.

We were intended not to buy anything, but we fell from grace.  Both Mary and I liked his work, and ended up with three pieces, one a large piece.  We needed to rearrange our art work at home to accommodate them.  We bought two, and he gave us a smaller version of the Northern Lights for “free”.

We then drove to Nikolaevsk, originally a town founded by strict Russian Orthodox Church believers, so they could worship without interference.
